Hydropower and navigation system "Djerdap" was constructed on Danube river in Djerdap (iron gate) gorge at Yugoslav-Romanian border. Aiming to provide independent utilization of the system and satisfy needs of the two countries, the whole structure was made with symmetrical disposition with overflow concrete dam in the middle and power houses symmetrically located at both sides of the dam.
